How best to care for your jewellery

Jewellery Care: Welcome

We at Watermans Goldsmiths want you to be able to hold and cherish your favourite pieces for as long as possible. To help you with this, here are a few things you can do to help protect your jewellery.

Before you bathe or apply any lotions or perfumes, remove your jewellery. Organic gemstones
such as pearls and opals are particularly vulnerable to acids. Even perspiration.

Remove your jewellery if you’re about to commence an activity that could scratch, knock, or
damage it. If you have any doubt, we advise you take it off and keep it in a safe place.

Store your jewellery separately. We advise you to store it in a soft-lined box or case to negate
any tangling, rubbing, or scratching on harsh surfaces or other pieces of jewellery.
Pearls should always be stored separately as they are easily damaged.

You must ensure any piece with a chain is fastened before storing. This prevents tangling.

When your jewellery is being stored, you must keep it away from sunlight, excessive
heat, or damp conditions.

Keep your jewellery away from any chemicals, especially chlorine. If it does come
into contact with chemicals then rinse it in water immediately.

Remove your jewellery whilst cooking and cleaning.

Remove your jewellery when going to bed.
